The innovative functions, which connect drivers, vehicles and the environment in an intelligent manner, joins the BMW Group under the term “ConnectedDrive”. BMW ConnectedDrive is an offer, which can be ordered in all models and on many markets around the world by customers. With the connection to the web servers, the real-time traffic information in the networked navigation, the integration of mobile devices with vehicle-specific apps and especially the partial automation of the driving task, with the help of various driver assistance functions, such as the ACC Stop & Go or the congestion assistant, BMW offers a multitude of mobility services.

In the field of driver assistance systems, BMW is part of various research projects. The ADAPTIVE, KO-HAF, UR:BAN and PreCASE are especially linked to the highly-automated driving system. In 2011, the electronic copilot from BMW was presented. He is able to brake and steer in an automated manner and overtakes slowing vehicles in an independent manner. The vehicle supports, with the help of communication, that other vehicles can thread. At CES 2014, BMW presented a system, which moved a highly-automated vehicle to the dynamic driving limits. The new generation of control systems actively intervenes in the driving direction arbitration and, at the same time, coordinates the electrically-controlled steering with brake and acceleration pedal. At CES 2015, BMW showed how completely collision-free and automated driving is possible. The fully-automated Remote Valet Parking Assistant in BMW i3 research vehicle combines the information from the laser scanner with the digital map of a building, for example, a parking garage.

In the first subproject, BMW will introduce the description of the function highway-chauffeur and formulate the identification as well as the description of typical, potentially critical traffic situations, for the filling of the test specification database. In the third subproject, BMW will expand the critical traffic situations, which are defined by technical critical situations, for the components involved. The assurance of laboratory tests/simulation is a key focus point. BMW coordinates here the work package and will focus on the area of virtual testing of HAF functions as well as its interplay in the testing field and field tests as well as the connection to the test specification database. For the fourth subproject, BMW will consider the project results regarding the effectiveness of the HAF safety assessment and the integration capability.
